I have a problem with the phrase "useless knowledge." They say that it is useless because it is not something that will come in handy in your everyday life. But that isn't true for everybody. Knowing that hadephobia means fear of hell is useful if you are a psychologist, or if you know someone who suffers from this fear (though, fear of hell is kind of the whole point, so this applies to most people). Knowledge of the fact that a group of crows is actually called a murder of crows is very useful to a biologist or someone who works for PBS. Just because the knowledge doesn't help you do your laundry or drive to work, doesn't mean that it is useless. Besides, how cool is it that it is called a murder of crows? Seriously!
I'm procrastinating from packing, and so I thought I would share my annoyance with you. But seriously, think about it. What kinds of things are useful to you that might be considered useless to the majority of the population?
Peace, Joe
